Working for the US Secret Service is a great way to serve the country and protect high profile government officials. As a special agent, you will be tasked with investigating criminal cases like money laundering, fraud and fraud. Although this situation may be stressful and requires long hours, it can be a rewarding way for the US government to work and travel the world. With some requirements, tests and a formal interview, you can join secret service and dive into an exciting new career.
Meeting the Basic Requirements
Be a U.S. citizen and be at least 21 years of age. You will need to provide you a U.S. citizen by providing a valid passport or other government-issued documents. At the time of your application, you must be at least 21 years and below 37 years.
If you are an experienced person, you must be at least 21 and 40 years of age to apply for secret service.
Take the license of a valid American driver. Special agents may have to move government officials around, so you will need a valid license from the driver’s license.
Maintain a healthy physique and keep a clean bill of health. You should be in excellent physical and mental shape, because you have to pass several health tests to be a special agent. You must also keep a healthy health record and a clean health record with a 20/20 vision.
By keeping a healthy, balanced diet and regular exercise, you can stay in shape for a job.
There is no visible mark on your head, face, neck, hand, or fingers. You can not do any tattoo, piercing or branding on these areas. You will need to remove piercing or tattoos to qualify for the position in these locations.
Applying for the Position
Apply for open positions on the USAJOBS website. Visit the website at: https://www.usajobs.gov The US government will regularly post the posts available in secret service on their recruitment website. Find websites often to search for “secret service jobs” or “special agent positions” to see the website.
The online tool on the website allows you to search for posts based on the location, however, if you join the Secret Service, you will need to spend significant time in Washington, DC and overseas.
Submit your resume and eligibility. As part of your application for a job, start a resume in which you have any relevant experience, such as experience in military experience and law enforcement or security. You should also list any educational training that may apply to you, such as degrees in criminal justice, conflict resolution, forensics, or law.
If you are fluent in any language other than English, start it again. Applicants who are fluent in other languages are favorable to them and if they are hired they may receive a bonus.
Pass written special agent entrance exams. Once your application is processed and you are taken in the next phase of the hiring process, you will need to take the SAE. SAEE consists of 5 sections that cover logic-based reasoning, language ability, details of observation, and counterfeit experiences or situations. You will be given 30-40 minutes per section and each section has to be completed according to its capacity.

Applicants complete the Physical Ability Examination To move forward in the hiring process, you will have to pass another exam. APAT measures your strength, endurance and aerobic abilities. You must complete a fitness test that includes push-ups, sit-ups, Chin-ups and 1.5 miles (2.4 km) runs. You will need to successfully complete the test, beginning and ending your training.
As part of your fitness test, you have to go through a complete medical and psychological examination to ensure that you have good mental and physical health.
There is a formal interview with a secret service representative. Once you have been declared competent for this post by passing SAEE and APAT, you will have a formal interview with the Secret Service’s Hiring Representative. You will be asked questions about your resumption and ability to serve your country along with qualifications. You can also ask questions about how you will contribute to the secret service on the basis of your skills and background.
As part of the hiring process you may have several formal, intensive interviews with different representatives.

You will need fingerprints and financial documentation to complete the background check.

Get a formal job offer. Once you have completed the required testing and training, you will meet with a hiring panel, which will then offer you a formal job. You will be hired at a specific grade level based on your training and experience and will be given a defined geographical area. Your salary and benefits will depend on the level of grade that is kept on the Secret Service.
Doing Well in the Secret Service
Complete the necessary training program for special agents. Once you accept a position in the Secret Service, you will have to complete 10-week training program and 17-week special agent basic training course. The 10-week program will train you in testing techniques and criminal law at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Galaco, Georgia. The 17-week course is more specific and happens at the Secret Service Training Academy in Washington, DC.
In your first attempt to become a special agent, you have to pass both training programs. If you fail, you will not go to the official role in secret service.
Be prepared to work longer and travel often. As a special agent, you can work more than a normal 40 hours work week and you can be assigned special details, which requires working in a very long shift. You will need to be prepared to travel in the form of part of the job in the country and the world, often on small information.
In case of national crisis or disaster, you can also be called for duty.
If you want to keep your family life, then stay in detail in the investigation. Most special agents will need to work on the investigation expansion for at least 2 years, where you investigate various criminal activities for the government. You can then choose to stay in check or go on a protective detail. By working in the investigation, you can maintain a more stable work schedule, so that you will have time for a healthy family life.
This can be a good option if you are married or have a life partner and a child, because you will have the ability to spend time with them even after working.
