If you have a selective service number, you need the law to register with selective service within 30 days of your 18th birthday. Your number is on the registration card that was mailed to you shortly after you registered. If you are not getting the card, you can use the online database of selective service to access your number. You can call their hotline number and follow the prompts.
Searching the Online Database
If you were born on or after January 1, 1960, then use the online database. Your number will only be in the online database of selective service if you were born on or after January 1, 1960. If you were born before that date, call 1-. 847-688-6888 and follow the prompts or talk to the customer service representative to get your number.
Visit the Selective Service System website. Open your Internet browser. Find the Main Website of the Selective Service System at http://www.sss.gov/
Hover over the blue “Registration” tab. Find the “Registration” tab on the left side of the page. Mouse over until a dropdown menu appears.
Click on “Check One Registration” in the dropdown menu. When you check “Registration,” a registration, there is another option listed in the dropdown menu. Click on “Check a registration”.
Click “Verify now,” you will be taken to a new page. On the right side of the page, you will see a big green check mark. Next there is a blue button that says “Verify now.” Click the blue “Verify Now” button.
Enter the requested information. After clicking “Verify now”, you will be taken to the page requesting information about the registered person. To access the search engine, you need to type your last name, social security number and date of birth. Finally, complete the captcha and click “Submit”.
Write your number. Once the database generates your number, write it somewhere safe. If you need to request a new registration card, please contact selective service at 1-847-688-6888.
Calling the Registration Information Hotline
If you were born before January 1, 1960, call the hotline. If you were born on or after January 1, 1960, the easiest way to find your number is to use the online database of selective services. If you were born before January 1, 1960, use the hotline.
To use the hotline, call 1-847-688-6888. If you are calling from a cell phone, you will get “1.” No need to dial the number and wait for the automated system to choose.
Follow the prompts given by the automated system. Press the number that matches your language (“1” for English and “2” for Spanish). After that, the system lists various reasons why you are calling. Press “1” to use registration information.
Continue to follow the prompts until you receive your number. To access your number, you must provide your last name, social security number and date of birth. If you participate in any problem, select the option that takes your call to a Live Customer Service Agent and talks directly to them.
