How to Convert an AIFF File to a WAV File

This emindsca teaches you how to use a computer to convert an AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format) audio file to WAV (Waveform Audio File) file format and save a separate copy of the converted WAV file. The conversion of your file to WAV has no effect on the original AIFF file.

Method 1 Using an Online Converter

1. Open Online-Convert.com in your internet browser. Type www.online-convert.com into the address bar, and hit ↵ Enter or ⏎ Return on your keyboard.

  • This is a free, online file converter website. If you’re not a fan of Online-Convert.com, you can easily find other file converter websites with a quick Google search.

2. Select “Audio converter” from the drop-down menu. The audio converter box can be found in the upper-left corner of the page. Select target format is the name of the drop-down menu.

3. Select Convert to WAV. This will open a new page titled “Convert audio to WAV.”

4. Select a file by clicking the Choose File button. This button can be found near the top of the page under the heading “Upload your audio to convert to WAV.”

You can also paste a URL link to convert an online file, or choose one of the cloud storage options and upload a file from Dropbox or Google Drive.

5. Upload the audio file you want to convert. Select the AIFF file you want to convert in the dialogue box, and click Open.

6. Select the Convert file option. It can be found near the bottom of the page. This will upload your AIFF audio file and begin the conversion to WAV.

At the bottom of the page, you’ll see an upload progress bar.

When the file conversion is complete, your download will begin automatically.

If your download does not begin automatically, click the green Download button next to the name of your file.

Method 2 Using Audacity

1. On your computer, launch Audacity. Audacity is an open-source audio editor that is free to use. The app is available for download from www.audacityteam.org and can be used on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

2. Click the File tab. It’s in the upper-left corner of your screen.

3. Click Open. This will allow you to select and open an audio file in Audacity.

4. Open the AIFF file to be converted. In the dialogue box, select your AIFF file and click Open to import it into Audacity.

5. Click the File tab. It’s in the top-left corner.

6. Hover over Export on the file menu. This will show your export options.

7. Select Export as WAV. This will prompt you to select a location to save your WAV audio file export.

8. Choose a location to save your WAV file export. Click Save to confirm, then navigate to the folder where you want to save your WAV audio file.

9. Fill in any extra metadata for your WAV file (optional). You can include extra information in your WAV audio file, such as the artist’s name, track title, year, or genre.

This is a purely optional step. You can export your file without including any metadata in this section.

10. Click OK. This will convert your AIFF audio file to WAV format, and save the WAV file to your selected export location.
