How to Connect a Vizio Soundbar to a TV

This emindsca shows you how to install a Vizio sound bar and connect it to a television. A digital optical cable, coaxial cable, or an RCA cable can all be used, but HDMI is usually recommended as the best option. Some sound bars may also have a Bluetooth pairing feature that allows you to connect wirelessly.

Method 1 Using a SPDIF Cable

1. Take out your Vizio soundbar. Remove your sound bar from its original packaging and double-check that you have all of the cables, screws, mounts, and manuals.

2. Take off the protective plastic covers on both ends of your SPDIF cable. This allows you to safely connect the cable to your TV and soundbar.

SPDIF cables are also known as Toslink cables or fiber-optic cables. Check that you have the correct cable for your connection type here.

3. One end of the cable should be connected to the “OPTICAL” port on the back of your TV. To keep dust out, the optical port is usually protected by plastic doors. Check that the cable is securely snapped in and connected.

4. Connect the other end of the cable to your soundbar’s “OPTICAL” port. This port should be the same as the one on the back of your television.

5. Check that your soundbar is turned on. Connect the power cable from your soundbar to a power outlet and press the Power button to turn it on.

6. Using your soundbar remote, select the appropriate input method. On the soundbar remote, press the Input button and use the arrow keys to select Optical, Toslink, or SPDIF.

7. Press the menu key on your soundbar remote. This will open the VIZIO menu on your TV screen.

8. Select Audio on the menu. This will open your soundbar’s audio settings.

9. Toggle the TV Speakers setting to the Off position. Select the TV Speakers option with your remote and toggle it off using the arrow keys on the remote.

This will eliminate the echo effect caused by multiple sound sources.

10. Set the Digital Audio Out to Bitstream or Dolby Digital. Select this option from the Audio menu and use the arrow keys on the remote to change the setting.

Method 2 Using an RCA Cable

1. Take out your Vizio soundbar. Remove your sound bar from its original packaging and double-check that you have all of the cables, screws, mounts, and manuals.

2. Look for the red and white RCA audio cable. This cable can be used to connect an analogue sound source.

3. Locate the “AUDIO OUT” port on the back of your television. On your TV, this port should have two red and white connectors labelled Audio Out.

4. Connect the red and white cables to the appropriate ports on your television. Check that the red end of your RCA cable is plugged into the red port and the white end is plugged into the white port.

5. Connect the other end of the cable to your soundbar’s red-and-white “AUDIO IN” or “AUX” connection. This should create an analogue sound connection between your TV and soundbar.

6. Check that your soundbar is turned on. Connect the power cable from your soundbar to a power outlet and press the Power button to turn it on.

7. Using your soundbar remote, select “AUX” as your input method. On the soundbar remote, press the Input button and use the arrow keys to select AUX.

8. On your soundbar remote, press the menu button. This will bring up the VIZIO menu on your television screen.

9. Select Audio on the menu. This will open your soundbar’s audio settings.

10. Toggle the TV Speakers setting to the Off position. Select the TV Speakers option with your remote and toggle it off using the arrow keys on the remote.

This will eliminate the echo effect caused by multiple sound sources.

11. Set the Analog Audio Out to Fixed or Variable. You can toggle between these two options based on your personal preferences.

When you select Variable, the volume on your soundbar will automatically increase and decrease as you adjust the volume on your TV.

If you choose Fixed, your soundbar’s volume will be controlled by the device itself.

Method 3 Using HDMI ARC

1. Take out your Vizio sound bar. Remove your sound bar from its original packaging and double-check that you have all of the cables, screws, mounts, and manuals.

2. Connect one end of an HDMI cable to your sound bar’s HDMI OUT (ARC) port. This will allow you to connect your sound via HDMI.

3. Connect the other end of the cable to your television’s HDMI 1 (ARC) port. This enables your television to send audio signals to the sound bar via the HDMI cable.

4. Connect your sound bar to a power source. Plug the power cable into a power outlet and connect it to the Power port on the back of your sound bar.

5. Using your soundbar remote, select “HDMI” as your input method. On the soundbar remote, press the Input button and use the arrow keys to select HDMI.

Method 4 Using Bluetooth

1. Take out your Vizio sound bar. Remove your sound bar from its original packaging and double-check that you have all of the cables, screws, mounts, and manuals.

2. Hold down the Bluetooth button on the side of your soundbar for a few seconds. This will activate Bluetooth pairing mode on your soundbar.

Alternatively, you can use your remote to press the Bluetooth button.

If you have the VIZIO remote with the LED screen, press MENU to access your settings and look for the BT Pair option.

3. Check that the Bluetooth on your TV is turned on and discoverable. To pair it with your soundbar, go to the Bluetooth menu on your TV.

4. Select your soundbar from the Bluetooth pairing menu on your smart TV. The Bluetooth pairing menu may differ slightly between TVs, but you should only need to select your soundbar from your TV’s Bluetooth discovery list.
