How to Close Running Apps

Method 1 Closing Running Apps on Android

1. Open the menu of recently used apps. Depending on your model and Android version, you can find this in a few different places. Try these methods:

In the bottom left corner of the screen, tap the options menu (indicated by lines or a square).

Select the button that resembles two rectangles.

Swipe up from the bottom of the screen slightly. When you close the app, it will be removed from the list.

2. Scroll through to find the app you want to close. Swipe to see all the currently running apps.

3. Swipe away from an app to close it. Depending on the screen layout, swipe up, down, right, or left. When you close the app, it will clear.

Method 2 Force Closing Apps on Android

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app. Swipe down from the top of your screen and tap the settings gear icon in the upper right corner.

Settings can also be found in the app drawer.

2. Tap on Apps. This may also be called Application Manager or something similar.

3. Tap on the app that you wish to force close. Swipe through to find the app, or search for it at the top.

4. Tap Force Stop. This may be at the top or the bottom of the screen, depending on your phone or tablet model.

Method 3 Closing Running Apps on iOS

1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and come to a halt halfway through. This will open the recently used apps menu on an iPhone X or later, an iPad running iOS 12 or later, or iPadOS.

Double-press the home button on an iPhone 8 or earlier.

2. Scroll through the list to find the app you want to uninstall. Swipe left or right to see all of the apps that are currently running.

3. Swipe up on an app to close it. The app will clear from the list when it is closed.

Method 4 Closing Apps on Windows PC

1. Save any data you don’t want to lose. Any unsaved work will be lost if a programme is terminated.

2. Hit Ctrl + ⇧ Shift + Esc. This will take you to the task manager.

3. End a task by right-clicking an app. This will bring the app to a halt on your computer.

The app may display a pop-up warning. Confirm that you want to close the window.

Method 5 Closing Apps on Mac

1. Save any data you don’t want to lose. Any unsaved work will be lost if a programme is terminated.

2. Hit ⌥ Opt + ⌘ Command + Esc. This will open a new window[3] .

Alternatively, select Force Quit from the Apple menu at the top.

3. Select an app and press the Force Quit button. This will bring the app to a halt on your computer.

The app may display a pop-up warning. Confirm that you want to close the window.

Before exiting a programme, ensure that your work has been saved if necessary.
